Kyocera Precision Tools introduces the MA90 milling series featuring four-edge tangentially mounted inserts, ensuring complete body rigidity, optimal chip evacuation, enhanced tool life and high-quality surface finishes. Milling, among other machining processes, is critical to overcoming the various dimensional and finish challenges of machining molds.

Tangentially mounted (90 degrees), the MA90 inserts are said to be more chatter resistant. They feature an improved wall accuracy with peripheral grinding specifications and a distinctive wiper edge with a large relief angle that suppresses wear. Notably, the MA90 milling series enables multifunctional designs for facing, shouldering, slotting, ramping, helical milling, pocketing, contouring and plunging operations.

When paired with the latest PR18 series inserts, the MA90 demonstrates its capability to reliably tackle various materials. PR18 series insert grades incorporate Kyocera’s Megacoat Nano EX coating technology, which uses a double lamination technique with nano multilayers for abrasion, wear and heat resistance.

Why use a tangential cutter? Available in a variety of inch and metric end mill, face mill and modular head sizes, Kyocera contends that the MA90 gives users additional benefits than are offered from conventional cutters. Due to its design with tangentially mounted inserts where the insert screws are on the side, cutting forces are directed into the insert pocket corner. On conventional mills where the screw is on the front, cutting forces directed over the edge of the insert can build tension on the screw. The tangential design also enables more teeth per diameter, better chip evacuation and larger web thickness giving a significant amount of rigidity to the body.
