SyBridge Technologies in Fitchburg, Massachusetts and Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School (Monty Tech) announce the success of a long-standing apprenticeship program. This program provides students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the art, science and craft of moldmaking, preparing them for rewarding careers in manufacturing.

“It’s fitting that Fitchburg is home to a thriving apprenticeship program in plastics and moldmaking,” says Ron Maillet, general manager of SyBridge Technologies-Fitchburg. “The industry has a rich history here, dating back to Foster Manufacturing’s work in injection molding a century ago.”

The seven-year partnership between SyBridge and Monty Tech has seen a steady rise in student interest. Students in the program gain experience through a structured progression, starting with blueprint reading and manual machining. As they demonstrate proficiency, they move on to more complex tasks, including working with computer-controlled equipment and programming 3D models.

“This partnership is a win-win for our students and the tooling industry. We’re not only preserving a vital trade but also ensuring a strong future for American manufacturing,” says Maillet.

Key benefits of the program include:

  • Hands-on learning: Apprentices gain practical experience working alongside experienced professionals.
  • Skill development: The program focuses on developing critical skills in blueprint reading, machining and CAM.
  • Career opportunities: Graduates are well-positioned for rewarding careers in the growing field of moldmaking.
  • Strong industry connection: The program bridges the gap between education and real-world manufacturing needs.

“We are proud of our partnership with SyBridge,” adds Kim Curry, coordinator of co-operative education and placement for Monty Tech. “This program provides our students with a unique opportunity to learn from industry leaders and build successful careers.”
